Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, had a crucial engagement with the Small Arms and Light Weapons Commission at the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC).
This meeting was in response to growing concerns over the indiscriminate use and acquisition of firearms, as well as the rising crime rate in the region.
Dr. Amoakohene charged the Commission to intensify border inspections to curb the illegal inflow of weapons. Additionally, they are to monitor the distribution and sale of firearms and bullets to prevent unauthorized access and regulate local arms manufacturing to ensure accountability and compliance with the law.
He also emphasized the need to engage traditional authorities on firearm usage during festivals and gatherings, given recent unfortunate incidents.
Dr. Amoakohene extended his sincere appreciation to Dr. Adams Bonaa, Executive Secretary of the Commission, for his commitment to collaborating towards a safer Ashanti Region and Ghana as a whole.
“Together, we must prioritize security and safeguard our communities from gun-related violence,” Dr. Amoakohene added.
