The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) has invested close to one million US dollars into a humanitarian initiative aimed at improving the welfare of orphaned children and their guardians in Ghana, in what officials describe as a major boost to social protection for vulnerable families.

The project is being implemented through local partner Markaz Aleawn Alyaqin Humanitarian Service and is already reaching hundreds of beneficiaries through a combination of food assistance, education support, and vocational empowerment programmes.

As part of this year’s Eid ul-Adha celebrations, the initiative marked a key outreach activity at Old Tafo, where 40 cows were slaughtered and the meat distributed to 590 orphans, along with their parents and caregivers.

The gesture formed part of efforts to ensure that vulnerable children are included in significant religious and community celebrations.

Speaking during the exercise, the Director of Markaz Aleawn Alyaqin Humanitarian Service, Ismail Mohammed Kamil, explained that the intervention officially known as the “Joint Implementation Program for Project of Supporting Orphaned Children and Their Guardians in Ghana” commenced in September last year and continues to expand its impact.

According to him, a key pillar of the programme is economic empowerment for guardians responsible for caring for orphaned children.

He noted that more than 260 guardians are currently enrolled in vocational training programmes, including tailoring, bakery, and soap-making.

He added that some beneficiaries are already undergoing tailoring apprenticeships, while others are being trained in soap production to enhance their livelihoods and long-term self-reliance.

As part of its livelihood support component, the project has also distributed kiosks to selected guardians to enable them to establish small businesses and generate sustainable income.

Beyond vocational training, the initiative continues to provide educational and welfare support to children, including monthly stipends, payment of school fees, as well as the distribution of school bags and exercise books to ease the financial burden on caregivers.

In previous outreach activities, the organisation also supported orphans with clothing during the Eid ul-Fitr celebrations, reinforcing its commitment to consistent welfare support throughout the Islamic calendar.

Mr. Kamil commended the sustained support from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through KSrelief and called on Ghanaians to offer prayers for King Salman, acknowledging his commitment to humanitarian interventions across the world.
