The Adansi Development Association and Health Tourism, in collaboration with Rotary Club -Accra and health directorates of Adansi North and Asokwa district have embarked on Free Health Screening exercise for the residents in the Adansi Asokwa and it’s surrounding Communities free of charge towards prevention of diseases amongst the residents.
Mrs. Herrietta Oppong, President of the Association explained that, the exercise at Adansi Asokwa was organised by the Adansi Development Association in partnership with Adansi Health Tourism, the Rotary club of Accra, Kanda, and the Health Directorates of Adansi North and Adansi Asokwa Districts.
She said, the Association is prepared to partner government in making sure people are aware of their health status through medical screening.
She said the Association as part of its health intervention programmes dedicated the year 2023 to screen people of various ailments including Blood pressure, Diabetes, Malaria etc in all the seven (7) paramoncies in Adansi. According to her, they provided free medications for patients who were diagnosed of symptoms of different illness and dewormed children and adults who needed to be given dewormers.
She disclosed that, the Association started the screening exercise at Akrofuom and Akrokerri in May, and currently embark on the Adansi Asokwa, Bodwesango, Ahinsan and Dompoase.
The President of Adansi Development Association said the rationale behind the health screening exercise was to bring quality healthcare services to the doorsteps of the people who do not go for check ups but only seek for health care when they are sick.
She stated that, they also embark on routine health care that includes screenings, check-ups, and patient counseling to prevent illnesses, disease, and other health issues that are critical in preventing diseases.
He said a lot of health facilities pay critical attention to patients with primary, secondary and tertiary health challenges, and little attention to regular check-up or screening of members of the public who had no health disorders to detect early symptoms of possible disorders.
The President of the Association believes that government has a role to play in supporting preventive healthcare to save more lives.
Fred Oppong, the Founder of the Association, disclosed that the membership of the Association are over hundred (100) members poised to contribute to the development of Adansi.
He said through the commitment of the members, they have been able to achieve the purpose of the formation of the Association
He stressed that, the Association is committed to ensuring that we contribute to the development of the communities in Adansi, says they are focusing on the health needs of people this year to help reduce malaria as it tops cases at OPD in Asokwa, while concentrate on education in the next year.
David Kunta, the Dansi Asokwa District Director of Health services revealed that Malaria tops OPD cases in the district, a situation he described as very worrying and called on residents of the district to observe a clean environment to reduce the spread of the disease.
He commended the Adansi Development Association and partners for the health screening exercise adding that it contributes to enhancing preventive healthcare which is the best way to fight diseases.
Dr. Lois Patricia Laryea Cheataa-Laryea of Adansi Health Tourism, a subsidiary of Adansi Travels also expressed her excited for been part of the free medical screening exercise since their objectives to help bridge the health gap in Adansi is in line with the Association objective.
The sponsors of the exercise includes Adansi Travels, Hentina Ltd, Sama Foundation, Kinapharma Ltd and members of the Adansi Development Association.
Some of the beneficiaries expressed worry over the high cost involve before one could access health screening and called on government through the ministry of health to help reduce the cost enable the majority to visit the health facilities in screening their health status towards preventing diseases.
