The Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) issued a press release today informing the general public of an impending rerun of the Kpandai Constituency parliamentary election, following a directive from the Tamale High Court. The court, in its ruling on Monday, 24th November, 2025, ordered that a fresh parliamentary election be conducted within thirty (30) days in the Kpandai Constituency.
The decision to schedule a rerun stems from a vacancy in the Membership of Parliament for the Kpandai seat, which was formally communicated to the Electoral Commission by the Clerk to Parliament in a letter dated Tuesday, 9th December, 2025. The letter notified the Commission that the seat had become vacant, thereby triggering the constitutional requirement for a by-election.
In accordance with the court’s order and the notification from the Clerk, the Electoral Commission has set *Tuesday, 30th December, 2025*, as the date for the rerun of the parliamentary election in the Kpandai Constituency. The election will be limited to the three (3) candidates who originally contested the 2024 parliamentary election in the constituency.
The Electoral Commission emphasized its commitment to transparency, fairness, and integrity in the conduct of the rerun election, assuring voters and stakeholders that all necessary measures will be taken to ensure a free, fair, and credible process. Preparations are already underway to facilitate voter education, security arrangements, and logistical support for the electoral officials assigned to the Kpandai Constituency.
In its statement, the Commission urged eligible voters in Kpandai to participate actively in the democratic process and exercise their right to vote in the upcoming rerun. The EC also called on political parties, candidates, and their supporters to maintain peace and decorum throughout the election period, respecting the rule of law and the electoral guidelines set forth by the Commission.
The press release was signed by *Mr. Fred Tetteh*, Deputy Director of the Research, Monitoring and Evaluation Department at the Electoral Commission, who reiterated the institution’s dedication to upholding electoral integrity and ensuring that the will of the Kpandai electorate is accurately reflected in the parliamentary representation of the constituency.
The rerun election is expected to draw significant attention from both local and national observers, given its implications for the composition of Ghana’s Parliament and the broader political landscape in the Northern Region. The Electoral Commission has pledged full cooperation with all stakeholders to guarantee a smooth and transparent electoral process on 30th December, 2025.
