The Ahafo Ano South West District Assembly on Friday, January 23, 2026, distributed a total of 10,000 birds to poultry farmers and selected households across the District under the government’s Nkoko Nketsenketse initiative.

The distribution exercise was led by the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Abubakar Sedik, in collaboration with the District Department of Agriculture.

Addressing beneficiaries at the event, Hon. Abubakar Sedik applauded the Government for introducing the Nkoko Nketsenketse initiative, describing it as a strategic programme aimed at revitalising the economy, creating employment and improving food security. He encouraged the youth in the District to take advantage of the initiative and venture into poultry farming as a viable means of earning a living.

“This initiative is not only about distributing birds but about empowering our people economically, strengthening local food production and reducing the importation of chicken into the country”, the DCE stated.

The District Director of Agriculture, Mr Francis Akwarfo-Quay, advised beneficiaries to take proper care of the birds by adhering to recommended poultry management practices, including proper feeding, housing and sanitation, to ensure high survival and productivity rates.

The District Veterinary Officer also took participants through basic animal health and disease control measures, urging beneficiaries to promptly report any signs of illness to avoid losses. He also made it known to the beneficiaries that he will keep visiting them to monitor the birds.

Speaking on behalf of poultry farmers, the Chairman of the Ashanti Regional Poultry Farmers Association commended the Government and the District Assembly for the intervention, noting that the Nkoko Nketsenketse initiative would significantly boost local poultry production, stabilize the Ghana Cedis and reduce reliance on imported poultry products.

Some beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to the Government for the support and pledged to make good use of the birds to improve their livelihoods.

The Nkoko Nketsenketse initiative forms part of the Government’s broader agricultural development agenda aimed at promoting local production, job creation and economic empowerment at the District level.
