Describing the incident as “unfortunate and avoidable,” the Minister disclosed that he had been fully briefed on the circumstances surrounding the clash, which has since generated public concern and widespread reactions, particularly on social media.

Hon. Dr. Amoakohene expressed his deepest condolences to the bereaved family and extended sympathy to all individuals affected by the incident.

He also conveyed government’s prayers and best wishes to those who sustained injuries, wishing them a speedy recovery.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured, and I wish them a speedy recovery,” the Minister stated.

In his address, the Minister strongly cautioned the public against confronting law enforcement officers or disregarding lawful orders, stressing that such actions pose a serious threat to public safety.

He noted that videos circulating from the scene highlight dangerous acts that must not be repeated.

He urged citizens to cooperate fully with the Ghana Police Service and other security agencies in the discharge of their constitutional mandate, emphasizing that confrontation with the police only escalates tensions and endangers lives.

Despite the tragic outcome, Hon. Dr. Amoakohene commended the Ghana Police Service for their continued commitment to maintaining law and order, particularly in areas affected by illegal mining activities.

On accountability, the Minister assured that investigations into the Jacobu incident are currently ongoing and that government is determined to pursue the matter to its logical conclusion.

“Any persons found to have acted unlawfully will be dealt with in accordance with the law,” he assured.
Hon. Dr. Amoakohene further appealed to traditional authorities, community leaders, youth groups, and other stakeholders to play active roles in restoring calm and ensuring that lawful processes are respected at all times.

He concluded the statement with a solemn prayer for the deceased, calling for peace and restraint as investigations continue.
