The Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA), under the leadership of its Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Mary Awusi, engaged the Association of Ghana Apparel Manufacturers (AGAM) at the GFZA Head Office to discuss trade facilitation support and key concerns within the textile and garment sector.
Discussions focused on addressing import and export challenges affecting industry players, particularly issues related to Free Zones licensing fees and procedures, while exploring practical interventions to improve operational efficiency and enhance the sector’s competitiveness within the sub-region.
Dr. Awusi, together with Mr. Kwasi Ofori-Antwi (Acting Director, Strategic Manufacturing Directorate) and Ms. Abena Gyamfi (Senior Commercial Officer, Textiles and Garments Unit) of the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry (MoTAI), acknowledged the concerns raised by AGAM, led by its President, Ms. Nura Salifu, who is also the CEO of Sixteen47 Ltd. They provided detailed clarifications on the key issues and outlined ongoing and planned measures to address the challenges and strengthen collaboration for sustained growth within the sector.
The meeting underscored the importance of continued collaboration between GFZA, MoTAI, and AGAM, with all parties expressing confidence that sustained engagement will improve efficiency, support seamless business operations, and enhance the competitiveness of local textile and apparel manufacturers.
Also present were GFZA Directors and Heads of Department, who took turns to respond to questions, as well as AGAM executives and members.
