A fresh political standoff is brewing in the Ejisu Municipality following a strong demand by the Ashanti Regional Women’s Wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for an unqualified apology from the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Madam Jeryne Asante, over what they describe as “gross disrespect” toward their regional leadership.
Addressing the media at the Ejisu NDC Party Office, the Asokwa Constituency Women’s Organizer, Regina Awuni, speaking on behalf of the regional women’s wing, called on the MCE to immediately apologize to the Ashanti Regional Women’s Organizer, Madam Gloria Huze.
According to her, the alleged conduct of the MCE toward Madam Huze is unacceptable and undermines the dignity of women in leadership within the region.
Madam Awuni expressed deep concern over what she described as a pattern of disrespect directed at the regional women’s organizer, emphasizing that such behavior would not be tolerated by the women’s wing. She stressed that Madam Huze is not only a political leader but also a maternal figure within the party structure, commanding respect and solidarity among women organizers across the Ashanti Region.
“We cannot sit unconcerned while our leader is subjected to public ridicule and disrespect. As women, we stand united, and we will not allow anyone, regardless of their position, to undermine the authority and dignity of our regional organizer,” she stated.
The women’s wing further accused the MCE of engaging in actions that allegedly resulted in the destruction of a fence wall belonging to Madam Huze without prior notice or due process. This development, according to Madam Awuni, has compounded the grievances of the group and heightened tensions within the municipality.
In addition to the alleged property damage, the group also accused Madam Asante of tarnishing the reputation of Madam Huze by making what they described as false claims in the media. They argued that such actions not only damage individual reputations but also threaten party unity and cohesion at a time when collaboration is crucial.
The group warned that failure by the MCE to render an immediate and unqualified apology could lead to further action by the women’s wing, although specific measures were not disclosed. The statement ended with a call for calm but firm insistence on accountability and respect for party hierarchy.
This latest development adds to ongoing tensions within the local political landscape, raising concerns about internal divisions and their potential impact on governance and party operations in the Ejisu Municipality.
As of the time of filing this report, Madam Jeryne Asante has not publicly responded to the allegations or the demands made by the NDC women’s wing.
Political observers in the region are closely monitoring the situation, urging all parties involved to exercise restraint and pursue dialogue in resolving the matter amicably.
