A total of 122 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the Offinso North District of the Ashanti Region have benefited from the 2025 fourth-quarter allocation of the Persons with Disabilities Common Fund, aimed at improving their livelihoods and promoting economic independence.

The beneficiaries received cash, vocational equipment, educational support and medical assistance during a presentation ceremony held at the forecourt of the Offinso North District Assembly.

Speaking in an interview, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Offinso North, Mr Ceazar Ofosu Acheampong, said the intervention formed part of the government’s commitment to empowering persons with disabilities and enhancing their socio-economic well-being.

He explained that 45 beneficiaries received livelihood support items, including refrigerators, industrial sewing machines, fufu processing machines and wheelchairs to enable them to engage in productive economic activities.
Mr Acheampong added that 60 beneficiaries were given cash to serve as start-up capital or to expand their existing businesses.

He further stated that 10 students with disabilities received educational support items to facilitate their studies, while the medical bills of seven beneficiaries were fully settled under the programme.

The DCE said the support followed consultations between the District Assembly and leaders of various PWD groups to ensure that the assistance addressed the priority needs of beneficiaries.

He noted that the initiative was designed to reduce poverty among persons with disabilities, promote self-reliance and discourage street begging by creating opportunities for beneficiaries to earn sustainable incomes.

Mr Acheampong reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to ensuring transparency and fairness in the disbursement of the PWDs Common Fund and urged beneficiaries to make prudent use of the support to improve their living conditions.

The beneficiaries expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama and the District Assembly for the timely intervention.
They commended the Assembly for the transparent distribution process and pledged to use the support to improve their livelihoods and contribute meaningfully to the development of their communities.
