The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has signed a GH¢8.4 million agreement with Ghana Water Limited (GWL) to rehabilitate three major water supply systems in the Western and Central regions in a move aimed at improving access to safe drinking water and promoting environmental sustainability.

The rehabilitation project will cover the Bonsa, Daboase and Sekyere Heman Water Supply Systems, which have experienced operational challenges over the years, affecting water production and supply to thousands of residents.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod, Mr. Sammy Gyamfi, said the Board approved the project after conducting an independent technical assessment to determine the urgency and feasibility of the intervention.

He explained that the initiative forms part of GoldBod’s broader commitment to responsible mining practices, environmental protection and corporate social responsibility.
According to him, sustainable mining goes beyond mineral extraction and must include meaningful investments that improve the welfare of host communities and safeguard critical national resources.
Mr. Gyamfi noted that access to clean and reliable water remains essential to public health and socio-economic development, adding that GoldBod would continue to partner with state institutions to undertake projects that create lasting benefits for Ghanaians.
For his part, the Managing Director of Ghana Water Limited, Mr. Adam Mutawakilu, expressed appreciation to GoldBod for the intervention, describing it as timely and significant.
He said the rehabilitation works would restore the operational efficiency of the affected water systems, increase water production and enhance service delivery to communities that have endured years of unreliable water supply.
Mr. Mutawakilu stressed that the partnership demonstrates the importance of collaboration between public institutions in addressing national development challenges.

He expressed optimism that once completed, the project would significantly improve access to potable water while strengthening the resilience of the country’s water infrastructure.

The initiative is also expected to contribute to environmental sustainability by supporting responsible natural resource management and ensuring the long-term viability of water supply systems in the beneficiary areas.

The agreement underscores GoldBod’s growing role in supporting national development through investments that combine environmental stewardship with improved public service delivery.
