The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA), Dr. Mary Awusi, has assured businesses operating within the Tema Export Processing Zone (EPZ) of the Authority’s commitment to strengthening fire safety and emergency response following the recent fire outbreak at the Melcom warehouse.
Leading a management delegation to inspect the affected facility on Saturday, Dr. Awusi assessed the extent of the damage, expressed solidarity with the company and engaged key stakeholders on measures to prevent similar incidents.
During the visit, the GFZA Chief Executive met with a representative of Melcom, Mr. Govind, and the Tema Regional Fire Officer, who briefed the delegation on the incident and the emergency response efforts.
Dr. Awusi said the Authority would work closely with the Ghana National Fire Service to enhance emergency preparedness, improve response times and strengthen fire safety systems within the Tema EPZ.
She stressed that protecting investments, safeguarding lives and property, and ensuring uninterrupted business operations remain key priorities for the Authority.
The GFZA also announced that, in collaboration with the Ghana National Fire Service, investigations have commenced to determine the cause of the fire and recommend measures to prevent future occurrences.
Dr. Awusi was accompanied by the Director of Corporate Affairs, Public Relations and Aftercare, Dr. Patience Agbleze Acorlor; the Director of the Tema Office, Mr. Edward Adu-Ntiamoah; the Head of Estate and Zones, Mr. Benjamin Obeng, and other officials of the Authority.
