Okofo Dr Twum Barimah V,National President of the Ghana Hard Rock Miners Association, has emphasized that hard rock miners are law-abiding and operate in an economically sustainable manner.
Contrary to misconceptions, the Association asserts that hard rock mining does not involve mining in forests, farmlands, or water bodies.
The Association has expressed its full support for the government’s initiative to establish a Gold Board, which aims to regulate the gold industry and provide a formal platform for buying and selling gold.
Okofo Dr Twum Barimah addressing the press today in Kumasi urged the government to expedite the process of operationalizing the Gold Board, ensuring that it can effectively purchase gold from miners.
The President of the Ghana Hard Rock Miners Association highlighted the Association’s commitment to sustainable mining practices.
He emphasized that hard rock mining is done in a more economic and sustainable manner, minimizing environmental impact while generating revenue for the country.
Nana Okofo Barimah appealed to the government for support in promoting sustainable mining practices.
He requested assistance in providing technical support, particularly in the deployment of mining engineers to their sites.
The Association needs about 1,000 mining engineers to provide technical expertise and ensure that mining operations are conducted in an economically and environmentally sustainable manner.
The President emphasized that sustainable mining practices can create employment opportunities for the youth, reducing unemployment and crime. By supporting the hard rock mining sector, the government can help address some of the country’s socio-economic challenges.
Nana Okofo Barimah also urged the media to play a role in promoting sustainable mining practices. He encouraged the media to highlight the benefits of hard rock mining and the efforts of the Ghana Hard Rock Mining Association in ensuring that gold mining is done in a responsible and sustainable manner.
The President appealed to the government to provide protection for mining sites, ensuring that operations can proceed without disruptions. This, he said, would enable the hard rock mining sector to contribute more effectively to the country’s economy.
The Ghana Hard Rock Mining Association’s advocacy for sustainable mining practices and support for the government’s Gold Board initiative demonstrate its commitment to responsible mining. By working together, the government, media, and stakeholders can promote sustainable mining practices, create employment opportunities, and contribute to Ghana’s economic development.
