The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ahafo Ano South West, Hon. Abubakar Sedik, has called on the people of Wioso to embrace unity and work together to accelerate the socio-economic development of their community and the district at large.

According to him, lasting development can only be achieved in an atmosphere of peace, cooperation and collective responsibility, where residents and traditional authorities work hand in hand with the District Assembly to address the needs of their communities.

Hon. Sedik made the call when he joined the people of Wioso to celebrate this year’s colourful Yam Festival hosted by the Chief of Wioso, Nana Asaw Ababio I.

The annual festival brought together chiefs, queen mothers, opinion leaders, assembly members, youth groups, religious leaders and hundreds of residents to celebrate the yam harvest and showcase the rich cultural heritage of the community.

Addressing the gathering, the DCE urged residents to remain united and continue supporting initiatives aimed at transforming the district.

He noted that the Assembly was committed to improving critical sectors such as education, healthcare, sanitation, agriculture and road infrastructure, but emphasised that the success of these interventions depended on the active support and cooperation of the people.

“We can only achieve meaningful and sustainable development when we work together in peace and unity. Let us continue to support one another and partner the Assembly to bring more development projects to our communities,” he stated.

Hon. Sedik commended the Chief of Wioso, Nana Asaw Ababio I, and the people of the area for sustaining the annual Yam Festival, describing it as an important cultural event that promotes peace, unity and social cohesion while preserving the rich traditions of the people.

He observed that such festivals also create opportunities for community members to reflect on their development needs and strengthen the bond between traditional authorities and local government.

As part of his support for the successful organisation of the festival, the DCE presented a cash donation of GH¢2,000 to the organisers.

He assured the traditional authorities of his administration’s commitment to collaborating with them to implement development projects that would improve the living conditions of residents throughout the district.

Receiving the donation, the Chief of Wioso, Nana Asaw Ababio I, expressed gratitude to Hon. Sedik for honouring the invitation and supporting the celebration.

The Chief praised the DCE for his commitment to the welfare of the people and pledged the full support of the traditional council in advancing the development agenda of the Ahafo Ano South West District.

He urged residents to continue living in peace and harmony while supporting the Assembly’s programmes aimed at improving livelihoods and creating opportunities for future generations.
The colourful celebration featured traditional drumming and dancing, cultural displays and the symbolic sharing of yam, reflecting the importance of agriculture and cultural heritage to the people of Wioso.
