The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Oforikrom in the Ashanti Region, Hon. Answel Sadat, has had the honour of representing the Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Dr. Frank Amoakohene, at the official launch of the 80th Anniversary celebration of St. Monica’s Senior High School, Mampong–Ashanti.

The colourful ceremony, held at the prestigious Amonoo-Neizer Conference Hall at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), brought together a distinguished gathering of educationists, traditional authorities, alumni, students, and stakeholders in the educational sector to commemorate eight decades of excellence in girls’ education.

The launch served as a powerful reminder of the remarkable legacy of St. Monica’s SHS, a school widely recognised for its unwavering commitment to empowering generations of young women through quality academic training, discipline, and leadership development.

Over the past 80 years, St. Monica’s has established itself as one of Ghana’s leading institutions dedicated to nurturing brilliant and responsible female leaders who continue to make significant contributions to national development across various fields.

Addressing participants on behalf of the Regional Minister, Hon. Answel Sadat praised the school’s long-standing reputation for academic excellence and moral upbringing, describing St. Monica’s as a beacon of hope and transformation for young women in Ghana.

“The celebration of 80 years is not only a testament to the resilience of the institution, but also a reflection of the countless lives that have been shaped through its halls,” he noted.

He emphasized that the role of St. Monica’s SHS in promoting girls’ education remains critical, especially at a time when the nation is placing increasing importance on gender equality, youth empowerment, and inclusive national progress.

Hon. Sadat extended warm congratulations to the Board of Governors, Management, teaching and non-teaching staff, and the entire student body for their dedication to upholding the school’s values and standards over the years.

He also acknowledged the immense contributions of the alumni association, St. Monica’s Old Students Association (SMOSA), for its continuous support and commitment to the advancement of the school.

“SMOSA has played a vital role in sustaining the legacy of St. Monica’s, and I encourage them to continue partnering with management in building an even stronger future for the institution,” he said.

The MCE further urged all stakeholders, including government agencies, private partners, parents, and well-wishers, to rally behind the school as it embarks on the next chapter of its journey.

According to him, anniversaries are not only moments of celebration but also opportunities to reflect, plan, and invest in the future.

“As we celebrate this proud history, it is equally important to support St. Monica’s SHS in preparing for the future—through improved infrastructure, enhanced teaching and learning resources, and greater opportunities for students,” Hon. Sadat added.

The 80th Anniversary celebration is expected to feature a series of activities aimed at honouring the school’s achievements, strengthening alumni engagement, and raising resources to support developmental projects.

St. Monica’s Senior High School continues to stand as a symbol of excellence, discipline, and leadership in girls’ education, and its 80-year milestone marks yet another significant chapter in Ghana’s educational history.

The launch ended with goodwill messages, cultural displays, and a renewed commitment by all stakeholders to uphold the values and vision that have made St. Monica’s SHS a pillar of national pride for eight decades.

Congratulations once again to the Board, Management, Staff, Alumni (SMOSA), and Students of St. Monica’s SHS on this historic milestone.
