Selma Yoda, former TEIN President, Kwame Nkrumah University Of Science and Technology, has officially filed her nomination to contest for the position of President of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS), signalling her readiness to provide leadership centred on student representation, trust and service.
The nomination, filed yesterday, marks the beginning of what Ms. Yoda describes as a journey to contribute to the advancement of Ghanaian students through purposeful and responsive leadership.
In a statement following the filing, she said her decision to contest the NUGS presidency was not merely about submitting nomination papers but represented a commitment to ensuring that the voices and concerns of students remain visible in national discussions.
According to her, her vision is anchored on three key principles: leadership to serve, visibility to represent and trust to deliver.
She said effective student leadership must go beyond occupying a position and should focus on understanding the concerns of students, representing their interests and working to address issues affecting their academic and social wellbeing.
Ms. Yoda further stressed the importance of trust in student leadership, noting that leaders entrusted with the responsibility of representing students must demonstrate commitment and accountability in the discharge of their duties.
“Leadership to serve. Visibility to represent. Trust to deliver,” she stated, outlining the principles she intends to bring to her campaign for the NUGS presidency.
The filing of her nomination formally sets the stage for her campaign as she seeks the mandate of students across the country to lead the national student body.
The NUGS presidency is one of the key student leadership positions in Ghana, with the union serving as an umbrella body representing students and advocating their interests at various levels.
Ms. Yoda’s campaign is expected to focus on strengthening student representation and ensuring that student concerns receive meaningful attention.
With the nomination process completed, she has declared that “the journey begins”, as she prepares to engage the student community in her quest to become the next NUGS President.
She is campaigning under the slogan: “Selma for NUGS President.”
