The Baamuhene of Teacher Mantey, Nana Ogyedom Oheneaku Asamaning, has made a passionate appeal to government to come to the aid of the community, which he says lacks basic development projects.
According to Nana Asamaning, Teacher Mantey, a fast-growing community in the Ayensuano District of the Eastern Region, has been neglected for years despite its growing population and strategic importance along the Accra-Kumasi Highway.
Speaking to the media, the chief lamented that the community lacks good roads, proper drainage systems, health facility, and school infrastructure, a situation which is affecting the livelihood of residents.
“Our roads are in a deplorable state, especially during the rainy season. We don’t have a clinic, our school buildings are deteriorating and we have no proper market. We are begging government to remember us,” Nana Ogyedom Oheneaku Asamaning stated.
He said several appeals to the District Assembly have yielded no results and called on government, through the Ministry of Local Government, the Eastern Regional Minister and the Ayensuano Assembly, to prioritize Teacher Mantey in its development agenda.
He also appealed to Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), philanthropists and corporate bodies to support the community.
Plea For Footbridge To Save School Children
Nana Asamaning further raised serious concern about the safety of school children who daily cross the busy Accra-Kumasi Highway to attend school.
According to him, the absence of a footbridge has become a death trap, with several children being knocked down and killed by speeding vehicles.
“One of our major worries is about our school children crossing the highway. There should be a footbridge for them to use for their safety. We have had countless accidents where school children have been killed by cars in an attempt to cross the road,” he lamented.
He therefore appealed to government, through the Ministry of Roads and Highways and the Ghana Highway Authority, to as a matter of urgency construct a footbridge at Teacher Mantey to save the lives of children.
The Baamuhene assured that the traditional leadership is ready to release land for any developmental project government or any organization is willing to bring to the area.
Some residents who also spoke to this reporter shared similar sentiments, calling for immediate intervention to prevent further loss of lives.
