The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Aowin in the Western North Region, Hon Stephen Morcher has assured victims of the recent floods that devastated parts of the municipality that the Assembly remains fully committed to supporting them through the difficult period.

Addressing affected residents during a relief donation exercise at Aboi-Nsuoakyi, the MCE emphasized that the entire Aowin Municipal Assembly stood firmly with the victims and would continue to provide assistance to help them rebuild their lives.

“We are solidly behind you during this challenging period. The situation is not easy, but we are committed to ensuring that affected families receive the support they need,” he stated.

The devastating floods, triggered by days of heavy rainfall, have left many residents displaced and caused significant destruction to property. Reports indicate that nearly 50 houses have collapsed, rendering several families homeless and exposing them to harsh weather conditions.
The MCE expressed sympathy to families who had suffered losses and pledged that the Assembly, working together with relevant agencies, would explore ways of supporting those who had lost homes, livelihoods and other valuable possessions.
The flood has killed three people with several properties destroyed at Enchi, Achimfo, Amape,Boinso, New Yaakasi and Yewabra-town.

He, however, urged residents to adopt environmentally responsible practices to help reduce the risk of future flooding.
According to him, indiscriminate dumping of waste into drains, building on waterways and other activities that obstruct the free flow of water contribute significantly to flooding and must be discouraged.

“As we recover from this disaster, we must also take steps to prevent a recurrence. We all have a role to play in protecting our environment and ensuring that our communities remain safe,” he advised.
Through the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), the MCE donated various relief items to the affected residents. The items included bags of rice, cooking oil, bottled water, assorted drinks, mosquito coils, mosquito nets and other essential supplies aimed at easing the burden on victims.
While describing the donation as only an initial intervention, he assured the victims that further support would be mobilised to assist them in recovering from the disaster.
“The items we are presenting today may not be enough to compensate for the losses suffered, but they represent our commitment to standing with you. We will continue to seek additional support for affected households,” he said.
Receiving the items on behalf of the affected residents, the Assembly Member for the Ajuom Electoral Area, Hon. Bismarck Coffie, expressed appreciation to the MCE and the Municipal Assembly for the timely intervention.
He noted that the donation would bring relief to many families who had been struggling since the floods struck the community.
Hon. Coffie, however, appealed for additional assistance, explaining that the impact of the disaster had been severe and that many victims still required urgent support.
“The flooding situation has persisted for almost a week now, and many residents are still facing serious challenges. We are grateful for this support, but we also appeal for more assistance from government and other stakeholders,” he stated.
He further called on the central government, humanitarian organisations and corporate bodies to extend support to the affected communities to help them recover from the disaster and restore normalcy.

The flooding in Aboi-Nsuoakyi is the latest in a series of weather-related incidents affecting communities across parts of the country, highlighting the growing need for improved drainage systems, environmental management and disaster preparedness measures.
