As Ghana celebrates its 69th Independence Anniversary, the Ashanti Regional Communication Officer hopeful of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mahmud Kabore, has called on citizens and leaders to recommit themselves to the values of integrity, patriotism, and responsible leadership in order to safeguard the country’s future.
In a message to commemorate the anniversary of Ghana’s independence from British colonial rule on March 6, 1957, Mr. Kabore emphasized that the progress and prosperity of the nation depend largely on the dedication of its citizens and the integrity of its leaders.
Reflecting on the significance of the occasion, he noted that independence is not merely a historical milestone but a continuing journey that requires active participation from all Ghanaians.
“Great nations are shaped by leaders and citizens who serve with integrity and purpose,” Mr. Kabore stated. “As we mark Independence Day, let us reflect on our responsibilities and strive to contribute positively to the growth and prosperity of our nation.”
According to him, the celebration provides an important opportunity for the people of Ghana to pause and reflect on the sacrifices made by the country’s forefathers, particularly the role played by the nation’s first president, Kwame Nkrumah, and other independence fighters whose efforts secured political freedom for the country.
He stressed that the legacy of the independence struggle should inspire the current generation to work tirelessly toward building a nation that upholds justice, accountability, and inclusive development.
Mr. Kabore further indicated that national development requires collective responsibility and unity across political, ethnic, and social lines. He urged Ghanaians to place national interest above personal or partisan considerations, noting that unity remains one of the most important pillars for sustainable development.
“Ghana’s strength lies in the unity of its people and the commitment of its leaders to serve with honesty and dedication,” he said. “We must all play our part in protecting our democracy, promoting peace, and ensuring that our country continues to grow.”
He also encouraged the youth to take active interest in national development, emphasizing that the future of Ghana rests in their hands. According to him, young people must be empowered with the right values, education, and opportunities to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s progress.
The NDC communicator reiterated that leadership in both public and private sectors must be guided by transparency and accountability, stressing that ethical leadership remains essential for building strong institutions and maintaining public trust.
Ghana, widely recognized as a beacon of democracy and political stability in West Africa, continues to mark its Independence Day annually with national events, parades, and reflections on the country’s journey since gaining sovereignty in 1957.
Mr. Kabore expressed optimism that with renewed commitment, unity, and a shared vision for development, Ghana will continue to advance toward greater prosperity and social progress.
“As we celebrate this important milestone in our history, let us renew our commitment to the ideals that shaped our independence,” he concluded.
“Together, we can build a stronger, more prosperous Ghana for future generations.”
The message forms part of nationwide reflections marking the country’s 69th Independence Day celebration, a moment that continues to remind citizens of their shared responsibility in shaping the destiny of the nation.
