Government has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the continued development of the prestigious as it celebrates its centenary, with a pledge to improve infrastructure and safeguard the institution’s lands for future generations.
The assurance was given during the school’s Centenary Fundraising Dinner, Fashion Gala and the launch of the Achimota Centenary Cloth in Accra.
Speaking on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, the Chief of Staff ,Dr Julius Debrah said the Government would work closely with the Old Achimotan Association and the school’s management to preserve the rich heritage of one of Ghana’s foremost educational institutions.
He announced that Government had approved the upgrading of the internal road network within the school and would undertake additional interventions aimed at improving the learning environment for students.
Dr. Julius Debrah also reiterated Government’s resolve to protect Achimota School’s lands from encroachment, describing the institution as a national asset whose legacy must be preserved for generations.
An Old Achimotan himself, the Chief of Staff paid glowing tribute to the school for its century-long contribution to national development.
“For one hundred years, the Black and Gold has not just been colours; it has been a covenant of excellence, discipline, leadership and service,” he said.
He noted that Achimota School had produced generations of distinguished leaders, professionals, innovators and patriots who had made significant contributions to Ghana, Africa and the global community.
The colourful event brought together eminent Old Achimotans, government officials, corporate leaders, traditional authorities and friends of the school to celebrate its remarkable 100-year journey and mobilise resources for future development projects.
A major highlight of the evening was the unveiling of the specially designed Achimota Centenary Cloth, symbolising the school’s enduring identity and shared heritage.
Participants called on all stakeholders to remain committed to preserving the school’s enviable traditions while investing in its future growth.
The centenary celebrations are expected to continue with a series of activities throughout the year, culminating in commemorative events to mark 100 years of excellence in education, leadership and national service.
