A bizarre and troubling incident at the Nkwatia Government Hospital in the Kwahu area has triggered widespread public concern after a family was allegedly misled into believing their relative had died, only to discover him alive upon arriving at the facility.
According to reports circulating on social media, the patient by name Mr Ketekra from Hwiehwie had been admitted to the hospital for several weeks with a serious illness.
Efforts by hospital staff to reach his family to settle outstanding medical bills were reportedly unsuccessful.
In what has been described as an ill-conceived attempt to prompt a response, some nurses allegedly contacted the patient’s relatives and informed them that he had passed away. The news prompted the family to rush to the hospital, where they proceeded to settle the full cost of his medical expenses.
However, upon being led to the ward, the family was met with shock and disbelief when they found the patient alive and recuperating in his hospital bed.
The incident, which has been widely described as a “death prank,” has sparked outrage among members of the public, with many questioning the professionalism and ethical standards of the healthcare personnel involved.
Health experts and observers have condemned the alleged actions, noting that such conduct, if proven true, would constitute a serious breach of medical ethics and patient-family trust. They argue that healthcare institutions are expected to uphold the highest standards of integrity, compassion, and communication in dealing with patients and their relatives.
As of the time of filing this report, management of the Nkwatia Government Hospital has not issued an official statement regarding the incident. It remains unclear whether any internal investigations have been initiated or disciplinary actions taken.
The development has reignited discussions around patient care practices, communication protocols, and accountability within Ghana’s healthcare system, with calls mounting for authorities to thoroughly investigate the matter and ensure appropriate sanctions where necessary.
Further updates are expected as more details emerge.
