The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has taken a significant step towards improving traffic management and enforcement within the city.
At the 2nd Ordinary Meeting of the 4th Session of the 8th Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, held on Friday, July 28th, 2023, the assembly passed a resolution introducing special exercise fines for various traffic offenses.
The resolution, which was signed by the Presiding Member and the Metro Co-ord. Director on July 31st, 2023, outlines the new fines for different categories of vehicles. The fines are as follows:
– Taxis and Trotros: GH₵500.00
– Sprinters: GH₵800.00
– Buses: GH₵1,000.00
– Cargo Vehicles: GH₵600.00 (minimum) to GH₵1,500.00 (maximum)
– Illegal Loading at Unauthorized Locations: GH₵1,000.00
The assembly has identified specific locations where illegal loading is a major concern, including Pampaso, Central Market, Kejetia, KATH Roundabout, behind Bantamahelne Palace, around Suame Roundabout, and other areas.
The introduction of these fines is part of the KMA’s efforts to enforce traffic regulations and improve road safety in Kumasi. The assembly aims to reduce congestion, promote orderly traffic flow, and enhance the overall driving experience for commuters.
The new fines are expected to have a significant impact on commuters and vehicle owners in Kumasi. Vehicle owners and drivers will be required to comply with traffic regulations and avoid engaging in practices that contravene the law. Commuters, on the other hand, are likely to benefit from improved road safety and reduced congestion.
The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly’s decision to introduce special exercise fines for traffic offenses is a step in the right direction towards improving traffic management in the city. By enforcing traffic regulations and imposing fines on offenders, the assembly aims to promote a safer and more orderly traffic environment for all road users.
