The National Cleft Center was commissioned yesterday at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi, marking a significant milestone in Ghana’s healthcare sector.

Dr. Frank Amoakohene, Ashanti Regional Minister, joined stakeholders to celebrate this achievement, which promises to transform the lives of thousands of children and families affected by cleft lip and palate.

The National Cleft Center is more than just a healthcare facility; it represents a beacon of hope for many families who have struggled to access specialized care for cleft lip and palate conditions.

Dr. Amoakohene emphasized in a speech delivered during an official commissioning of the facility that the center embodies compassion, partnership, and progress, highlighting the collaborative efforts of Smile Cleft, KATH, the Ministry of Health, and the Ghana Cleft Foundation.

The Ashanti Regional Minister underscored the President Mahama’s strong focus on healthcare equity, noting that the National Cleft Center will play a crucial role in bridging the gap in specialized healthcare services.

By providing world-class care, training, and research opportunities, the center will not only benefit the Ashanti Region but also contribute to the nation’s healthcare development.

The commissioning of the National Cleft Center solidifies the Ashanti Region’s position as a leader in medical innovation.

With KATH at the forefront, the region is poised to make significant strides in healthcare delivery, education, and research.

“This centre is not just a building—it is a symbol of compassion, partnership, and progress,” Dr. Amoakohene stated, highlighting the significance of the National Cleft Center. “Together, we are making Ashanti—and Ghana—a place where every child, regardless of condition, can smile again.”

The National Cleft Center’s commissioning is a testament to the power of collaboration and commitment to improving healthcare outcomes. As the center begins its operations, it is expected to make a profound impact on the lives of many Ghanaians, providing them with access to quality care and restoring their dignity.
