A member of the Volta Regional Communications Team of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Hon. Japhet Festus Gbede, has criticised the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) over what he describes as attempts to politicise the ongoing investigation involving Dennis Miracles Aboagye, urging Ghanaians to support due process instead of street protests.

Mr. Gbede, who also serves as the Assembly Member for the Wuxor Have and Sremanu Electoral Area, said public confidence in Ghana’s democracy depends on allowing state institutions to carry out their constitutional responsibilities without political pressure or interference.

In a statement posted on his official Facebook page, he argued that calls by some members and supporters of the NPP to organise demonstrations in response to the investigation send the wrong signal and undermine the principles of accountability and the rule of law.
According to him, political parties should prioritise establishing the truth through lawful processes rather than mobilising protests whenever investigations involve prominent political figures.
“If your first reaction to the Dennis Miracles Aboagye investigation is to protest instead of demanding the truth, then your loyalty is not to Ghana,” Mr. Gbede stated.
He stressed that investigations into allegations of wrongdoing should be conducted independently, irrespective of the political affiliation of those involved.
Mr. Gbede maintained that no individual or political organisation should be exempt from lawful scrutiny, adding that accountability should not be misconstrued as political persecution.
He further accused sections of the opposition of seeking to influence public opinion whenever investigative bodies commence inquiries involving leading political personalities.
“The era of treating party affiliation as a licence to evade scrutiny must come to an end. No individual is above the law, and no political party owns the justice system. Let investigators investigate. Let the courts adjudicate. Let evidence prevail over propaganda, facts over emotions, and justice over political intimidation,” he said.

Mr. Gbede called on political actors across the country to respect due process and support the work of investigative and judicial institutions, stressing that Ghana’s democratic growth depends on transparency, accountability and adherence to the rule of law.

His comments come amid ongoing public debate surrounding the investigation involving Mr. Dennis Miracles Aboagye, with differing political opinions emerging on how the matter should be approached.

While some political actors have questioned the circumstances surrounding the investigation, Mr. Gbede insists that the appropriate course of action is to allow the investigative and judicial processes to proceed independently while ensuring that the rights of all parties are protected under the law.
